Life is a rich tapestry woven with moments of joy, sorrow, triumph, and loss. One key theme is the concept of impermanence. Everything we cherish—relationships, achievements, and even our own identities - exists in a state of constant change. While this realisation can be unsettling, it also invites us to live more meaningfully.
Impermanence is a fundamental truth of existence.
By acknowledging that change is the only constant, we can learn to appreciate our experiences without clinging to them. Accepting impermanence allows us to fully engage with the present moment. Instead of fearing change, we can see it as an opportunity for growth and renewal.
Letting go can be challenging.
This process isn’t about forgetting or dismissing our experiences; it’s about releasing our attachments to outcomes and expectations.
Here are some practical strategies she shared to help us embrace this journey:
1. Accept the moment as it comes:
Practice being fully present in each moment, recognising that feelings, situations, and experiences are temporary. Allow yourself to experience emotions without judgment, understanding that they will pass.
2. Practice letting go physically:
Incorporate somatic therapy into your routine that symbolise letting go. Whether it's through breath work, mediation, yoga, dance, or visualisation, moving your body can help release tension and emotional weight.
3. Cultivate gratitude:
Shift your focus from what you fear losing to what enriches your life. Keeping a gratitude journal can remind you of the abundance present in your current experiences.
4. Embrace change:
Rather than resisting change, view it as a natural part of your journey. Each shift carries valuable lessons, and by remaining open to these lessons, you can continue to grow and evolve.
Coping with the impermanence of life ultimately revolves around acceptance.
It’s about finding peace in the knowledge that, while everything may change, we have the power to choose how we respond.
As we continue our journey through the Soulful Queries series, I invite you to reflect on your own relationship with impermanence.
