From doing to being
The New Year is a perfect time to set an intention AKA to switch from doing to being. Why, you may ask?
At the heart of an intention lies a profound concept: it originates from a state of being rather than merely from doing.
Intentions are the guiding forces that shape our actions, decisions, and ultimately, our lives.
They are more than just goals or wishes; they are the mindset and emotional state from which we approach our aspirations.
When we set intentions, we tap into our core values, desires, and beliefs, creating a powerful foundation for our actions. When we talk about intentions arising from a state of being, we're emphasizing the importance of our inner world.
It’s not just about what we want to achieve but the mindset and energy we bring to that achievement.
Intentions focus on the quality of our experiences and the mindset we cultivate.
For example, if you set an intention to be more patient, that intention comes from a desire to embody patience in your daily interactions, rather than just trying to "do" patience when faced with challenging situations.
Intentions are powerful tools that can guide us on our journey through life.
By coming from a place of being, they allow us to navigate the complexities of our aspirations with grace and sometimes humour.
So, the next time you set an intention, remember: it’s not just about what you want to achieve, but who you want to be in the process. And who knows? You might just find yourself laughing at the unexpected twists along the way!
More on Intentions
Research in psychology supports the idea that intentions can influence behaviour. Studies show that when people set specific positive intentions, they are more likely to engage in actions that align with those intentions.
This is known as the intention-behaviour gap, where bridging the gap between what we want and what we do can lead to achieving our desired outcomes.
2 Different Approaches to Achievement
Intentions (being):
When we set intentions, we open ourselves to possibilities and allow for flexibility. We focus on the journey and the mindset, which can lead to unexpected opportunities. Intentions create a sense of flow and alignment with our true selves.
Goals (doing):
Goals often emphasize doing and achieving. They can create pressure and sometimes lead to stress, especially if we become too fixated on the outcome. The pursuit of goals can sometimes overshadow the joy of the process.
