Internal Accountability
From Wellness by Gigi
What is Internal Accountability?
Internal accountability is the practice of holding yourself responsible for your actions, decisions, and commitments. It’s about developing a mindset where you recognize that your success is largely in your own hands.
It's like deciding how to best look after yourself on a night out perhaps with a Rebound pack to support recovery and lots of water!
Understanding that the power of change and growth lies in my own hands has been revolutionary in my 20's. I am also not going to lie, I have learnt it the hard way. I moved abroad by myself at the age of 19 with no family, no friends, to new country and a different language I didn't speak.
Although they were (and still are) some tough moments along the way, it unlocked a superpower called internal accountability.
Think of it this way: if external accountability is like having a coach who gives you instructions and feedback, internal accountability is like being your own coach, parent and bestie.
You set your own goals, track your progress, and determine your success based on your personal standards.
It is a transformative practice that empowers you to take charge of your life and achieve your goals. It’s about more than just responsibility; it’s about cultivating a mindset of growth, resilience, and self-trust.
Internal Accountability Tips:
- Understand the value of imperfection.
- One small step is better than nothing. A lot of small changes make a big difference.
- Focus on what's inspiring/engaging for you. Follow that.
- Identify your most important tasks. Choose 3 per day.
- Schedule space.
- Align your mindset and actions to your goals.
